With 22 years of experience in education, I bring a wealth of expertise in teaching and tutoring across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, and have also worked in Adult Education language courses and provided university transition workshops for German. I have a proven track record in school and tutoring of helping students achieve high results in French and German, at GCSE, and German at A Level and have developed deep familiarity with GCSE and A Level requirements across a range of examination boards. I also have significant experience in developing trainee and newly qualified teachers’ understanding of German and French grammar and course content to support their development of effective lesson planning and delivery.
As a GCSE examiner for ten years, I have an exceptional understanding of assessment criteria, enabling me to understand when and how to guide students to either grade enhancement, or to achieving their best pass. My fluency in German allows me to teach from beginner through to university level, and I also have extensive experience supporting native and near-native speakers in understanding and applying GCSE and A Level assessment criteria so as to achieve top grades. In French, I have a proven track record of helping students excel from Beginner through to Key Stage 4, including those who need additional support to pass at GCSE.
My teaching also extends to English literature and language, from developing literacy skills and confidence through to advanced GCSE and A Level preparation. Additionally, I offer comprehensive support with essay writing, the UCAS, process and Personal Statement writing, including preparation for upcoming changes in the 2026 entry process.
Beyond my own pleasure in the content, I really enjoy two particular aspects of teaching: managing the balance between academic rigour and personal support of the student. First, I love challenging confident and able students to navigate the subtleties that lead to the highest grades, guiding them beyond simply what to know and into understanding how to apply that knowledge. Second, I find immense satisfaction in helping students who struggle with processing or retaining content, or who lack confidence, and building them up to achieve their best and feel a sense of pride in their achievement.
