Primary Phase Tuition Enquire
Covers key stage 1 infants (ages 5 to 7) and key stage 2 junior (ages 7 to 11). Plus, we have tutors who specialise in preparing students for entrance tests, either the 11+ and 11 or 13 + school entrance tests for the independent sector.
Why use a personal tutor?
Having one-to-one tuition can be a very effective way to support primary age students with their education. Subject to availability, we are usually able to find you a tutor to teach most of the subjects taught at primary level. There is a wide range of good reasons for choosing to use a tutor during the primary phase of learning, including:
- Catch-up support To catch-up with their peers; if they have for some reason fallen behind e.g. due to a period of illness.
- Confidence building To help students to build their confidence, either for a specific subject/s or to build their confidence in learning in general.
- Stretching and strengthening subject ability If for some reason they are not being fully stretched at school in a given subject such as English or Maths.
- Subject specific support To provide tailored support for a student who is struggling with a particular part of the curriculum e.g. help with their English or maths.
- 11+ Preparation To support and prepare students who will be sitting their 11+ test.
- School entrance tests To support preparation to gain access to an independent school, either at age 11 or age 13.
- Learning difficulties To provide tailored support for a student who is struggling, due to having a specific learning difficulty e.g. dyslexia or dyscalculia or other types of learning difficulties (see our Special Education Needs page).

Note: At primary level, it is often possible to have the same tutor for several subjects e.g. maths and English and in fact many tutors can cover most of the primary subjects. However, some tutors have decided to specialise on one subject e.g. maths, so depending on what sort of support the student is looking for, sometimes it might be better to have a different tutor for each subject.
Top tip – always plan ahead It is best to pre-empt the need for a personal tutor and get arrangements put in place early, rather than waiting until a problem becomes embedded. If you think your son or daughter might be struggling with their learning or if they have asked for help, then act now.
