I am an experienced tutor of English. I am based in Norwich but I am happy to commute further afield. In January 2025 I passed my PhD in English at the University of East Anglia with no corrections (the highest grade), and I also have an MA with Distinction in Modern and Contemporary Writing from UEA and a BA (First) in English from Goldsmiths, University of London.
My primary expertise is in the analysis of narrative fiction and poetry, but I also teach essay writing, rhetoric, argument, and more.
For the past two years I have taught GCSE-level classes for adult learners across Norfolk, through the Workers Educational Association and latterly Norwich Lifelong Learning. My classes are well-reviewed and regularly oversubscribed. The feedback forms for a recent day school I taught on Middlemarch included the following comments about my teaching:
